About Us
Our Studio
We are a husband and wife team with a shared love of craftsmanship, natural materials and delivering beautiful design.
We met and trained at Northumbria University, and founded Studio Laith following many years of honing our skills at award-winning practices in the North East. We strive to create uplifting spaces which are tailored to their context and champion sustainability, whilst offering a down-to-earth and practical approach for our clients.
Working from our converted barn in North Yorkshire, we use a combination of drawings, models, and material research to craft unique and imaginative spaces to be enjoyed for generations to come.
Harrison Lowthrop
BA(Hons), MArch, PGDip, ARB
Harrison grew up in an ancient woodland in Lincolnshire, in a log cabin that he self-built alongside his parents. This, and other eco-focussed projects enjoyed throughout his childhood, sparked his interest in light-touch, low-impact, and truly sustainable design.
His affinity with the natural world translates into architecture strongly rooted to place, which balances the requirements of a project brief with the surrounding landscape.
Ally Lowthrop
BA(Hons), MArch, PGDip, ARB, RIBA
Ally has a keen eye for detail, and a love of harmonising the new with the old. She designs with conscience to deliver sensitive projects which draw upon local heritage whilst achieving modern levels of performance.
The handmade paper models she builds are fundamental to our design process. They’re tangible, accessible and invaluable for communicating ideas with clarity, allowing a holistic view of a design to be gained without requirement for any prior or professional knowledge. More information on our modelmaking services can be found here.
